Fake companies help fluff CVs for a fee

Resume fluffing is a growing problem in the IT industry. Now, a Bangalore-based agency that conducts background checks of potential employees has compiled a list of 1,500 fake companies that have been
established for the sole purpose of providing employment certificates or a fee. Candidates reportedly pay up to Rs 15,000 per year of certification.

"In this industry, every year of experience means thousands of rupees in increment," said K V Narendra, CEO of Rezorce, the agency that culled the list from background checks over the last three years. "When people change jobs or want to change roles, resumes change to reflect the aspiration of the person, rather than the actual experience. Ambitions and peer pressure encourage even the most sensible people to take risks."

According to a survey conducted by AuthBridge, a background screening company, 18% of candidates across professions fluffed their resume to land a job in 2012-2013; in the industry-wise breakup, the IT industry stands at 24.11%. AuthBridge founder and CEO Ajay Trehan says the highest discrepancy of 37.31% was found in pharmaceutical/ biotech/ clinical research companies because unlike the IT industry, they weren't early adopters of background verification. Most IT companies today have a rigorous internal background verification process and also hire external third parties to investigate potential employees' employment and educational credentials, address confirmations and any criminal records. While these measures have brought the number of fake resumes down, industry sources say it's an uphill battle. "The fake CV issue surges in the post-recession phases, as people tend to cover up gaps in employment or unemployment," said Deepak Jain, SVP and global head, workforce planning and development, Wipro.

Prospective candidates are tipped off about these certificates by middlemen who work in the company where the job is sought. AuthBridge, with over 400 clients including the Bank of America, Tata Teleservices,
Capgemini and General Electric, cites a case study where verification of candidates who had applied for jobs in a leading BPO revealed their previous 'employer' to be the owner of a 5' x 5' mobile repair shop, who
was responding to the new company's verification calls. The recruitment agency working for the BPO was in cahoots with the candidates to perpetuate this fraud.

While companies like Wipro have an automated internal system that flags resumes listing companies known to issue fake certificates in exchange for money, Narendra's 'Rezorce Check Employer Red Data' list can be
viewed for free on the company website (www.rezorce.com). Rezorce has investigated each company's fiscal records, by checking either their income tax, service tax, VAT, provident fund, department of tele communications and ESI records to verify their legal existence. They also check the company's physical existence by visiting the office, or through postal records. The agency has posted proof of research for
companies they have labelled fraudulent on the site (screenshots of the ministry of companies, provident fund, postal service website etc that clearly shows blanks drawn while investigating the company) as well as
the name and designation of the promoter.

The problem of resume fluffing exists primarily in lower level jobs in the IT industry. "We used to have 40 to 45% fake resumes for jobs like ERP and data entry operators, but not in jobs that require skills like Java," said Dheeraj Babu, HR manager of software company CITAGUS.

Trehan says that leadership positions are not screened, as most are filled through referrals, but there is cause for concern at this level too. "Recently, the CEO of an IT company heading the India region applied for the top job in my client's company. But we found out that he had furnished a fake certificate claiming that he graduated from IIM-Ahmedabad in 1987," Trehan said, revealing that in the last one year, about 8% of offers made to leadership positions across industry were withdrawn for furnishing false information.

The fact that most companies choose not to take legal action against those caught padding their resumes has emboldened others to follow suit. "We generally allow an amicable exit for those candidates as filing a
criminal case is a waste of time," said Babu. But as a result, fraudsters are finding new, creative ways to beat the verification system, says Aditya Narayana Mishra, president — staffing and director —
marketing, Randstad India. "Earlier, they would forge company letterheads and experience certificates. But today, they create fake websites that capture their employment history. They look genuine and
the person responding to our queries sounds genuine. But a thorough verification reveals that these websites are fake," Trehan stated.

However, candidates are wising up to the consequences of taking these steps. K Ravindra (name changed), an ERP professional, says his failure to land a job for two years pushed him to inflate his work experience by
three years. "But I was caught by the company six months later. I had to beg them not to pursue a criminal case against me, so they asked me to resign," he said. Employed today, Ravindra offers advice to others,
"So-called well-wishers will offer you these options, but don't fall into the trap. Once a company blacklists you, your life is ruined."

The Immigration Realities Regarding U.S. Work Visas for Foreign Nationals

As you should know, many people around the world dream of a better life in a foreign country, but without job skills and good connections, the risk of exploitation is high. The Migration Policy Institute indicated the United States now spends more on immigration enforcement than on all the other central federal criminal law enforcement agencies combined. Millions of people are on the move. The number of migrants crossing borders in search of employment and human security is expected to increase quickly.

We’d like to explain you our experience about the U. S. work visas for foreign nationals and a littler comparative with the Spanish Immigration policy. At the first part of this post, we’ll do a brief about the background historical of U.S. And the next post, we’ll mention a repercussion about the Economic Crisis on Immigration Policies.

In the U.S. since before the Revolutionary War, in which the country successfully gained its independence from England, Americans not only set conditions for membership but also decided quite literally who would inhabit the land.

From the economic perspective, immigration is viewed as a source of additional labor, which decreases cost of employment for employers or at least stops it from rising; when we’re talking about the highly skilled; it also externalizes the cost of training. That means that employees are trained outside the country and the costs are not borne by businesses themselves. Therefore, business interests have been generally supportive of immigration.

The connection of these identity and economic worries explains why, throughout its history, immigration policy in the United States has frequently had an open policy to migrants from one part of the world while shutting the door for migrants from somewhere else.

Policies, labor-recruitment strategies, and popular sentiment from several time periods in US history reflect the historical tensions and unexpected political alliances.

We’ll mention some of those policies and strategies researched by Migration Information Source and I will compare with the Spanish immigration policies:

Immigration law maintained an annual limit on numbers of immigration.

Something similar situation is occurring in Spain, where each third month the employment office published a list of available work position for foreign nationals. Any other job offer have been hiring with national workers. The reality is that normally those lists is not much useful to hiring foreign nationals because the public jobs offers are not request for companies or are not commonly positions.
 
There are annual allotments reserved for persons qualifying as refugees under the new international definition and other quantities set aside for persons with skills certified as being in shortage.

To hiring a foreign national, the Spanish immigration policies allowed two possibilities: the work permit request for a company of strategic economic sector (Renewable energies, Environmental, Water and water treatment, Life sciences, Aeronautics and aerospace). Or in others cases, is request a labor certificate of the Spanish employment office to allowed the work permit for a foreign national. Note we don’t mention the big companies; those are object of another study.

The new wave of immigrations has been more diverse than at any point in history due to elimination of Asian exclusion and the national-origins system, as well as decolonization in Africa and Asia, which includes the first flow of immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa since the abolition of slavery.

Spain has signed different agreements with Latin countries as Peru or Chile; those allowed the hiring of foreigners workers without any request more than the labor contract. In fact, all the people knows the immigration flows are the results of the economic stage that’s why in our next post we will do examine some refers about this topic.

Conquer your fear of ReJection

There are few fears in each and every human being. Few fears such as losing something or getting rejected are quite common to many. Getting rejected could be in an interview or in any proposal or anywhere does hurt. Once this fear of rejection gets a toll of you then the next step you take is to avoid all the circumstances that will lead you to rejection. It could be in your personal life or in your career prospective; this fear can lead to disasters in your life. Conquer your fear of rejection is the way to progress in life.
 
Let us speak about getting rejected in an interview. Rejection is not just painful but also comes to your mind again and again. You might have many sleepless nights also. Sometimes the situation might not be too bad but only because you are rejected, the whole thing might look too big for you. It is the way you mentally deal with this situation is what finally matters. To forget all and move forward is very difficult thing to implement but this is the only way forward. It surely does take time and you will have to try till you can put out this rejection fear out of your mind. One of the best ways to conquer your fear of rejection is to learn from the mistakes you have committed in your previous interview. Even if you think logically, you have a fear because you doubt yourself of answering correctly and are low at confidence. The only way to clear your doubts and boost your confidence is to be better prepared this time.
 
Making sure you find right answers to the questions you have not answered correctly in previous interviews is the first step towards boosting your self-confidence. Rather than putting the question can I do it, ask why I can’t do it. It’s a difference of a single word but is capable of removing fear from anybody for sure. Seeing yourself in a mirror and saying this can help you even better at times.
 

Always remember there are two aspects when it comes to conquer your fear of rejection. One aspect deals with gaining better knowledge. The other aspect does deal with improving your self-belief. Combination of these two can only help you to come out of the fear of rejection. A positive thinking mind can also help you in many ways. Might be some better job is waiting for you. Thinking so will not let your morale fall down. Your success will only get sweeter if you achieve it after a failure. And another plus is you will not be afraid of failure as you have already tasted it. So seeing the positive side of rejection will do much good to you than just feeling that it is your failure. Thinking positive is good but this thinking should help you to work harder towards success and not make you complacent. This sought of change in your approach is the way to conquer your fear of rejection.
